Sattva Meditation Initiation: Level 1

  • Birmingham Yoga Birmingham, Alabama USA (map)

“This ancient way of mindfulness is as practicable today as it was 2,500 years ago. It is as applicable in the lands of the West as in the East; in the midst of life’s turmoil as well as in the peace of the monk’s cell.” Nyanaponika Thera

It’s safe to say that a consistent meditation practice has had a profound impact on my life. I discovered the power of meditation in 2008 while I was in grad school studying for my master’s in nursing anesthesia. This was one of the most stressful times in my life - my body, mind and spirit were all out of balance and I had started to experience significant physical dis-ease. I knew I needed to do something immediately, which led me searching for something to counter balance the stress. I attended a weekend meditation course which gave me invaluable tools to redirect my monkey mind and down regulate my nervous system. From then on, I meditated by using different techniques such as breath awareness, body scans, and guided meditation. After completing my degree, my thirst for knowledge and understanding of this ancient wisdom grew and led me to my first yoga teacher training. I even completed a 10-day silent Vipassana meditation retreat to deepen my relationship and understanding of the Self.

Being initiated into the Sattva meditation technique in 2017 took my meditation practice to a whole new level. Sattva Meditation is a kriya and mantra-based technique stemming from the Himalayan Yog-Vedantic Tradition, down the Babaji lineage, through Sri Yukteswar, Maharaji (my teacher’s guru, Anand Swaroop), and my guru, Anand Mehrotra.

This practice is timeless - its relevancy has stood the test of time. In the chaos of our modern world, and with the events of 2020, developing a consistent meditation practice has become even more important. I am so excited to be offering this profound wisdom to you online. This simple, yet comprehensive, holistic, and effective practice will give you all the tools you need to develop a consistent meditation practice. When practiced with devotion 20 to 30 minutes a day, it can benefit all aspects of your life.
